On-the-job training
  • Prepares for work at job site with proper tools and equipment and a work plan that is sound, clearly communicated, and employs safety precautions
    • Adheres to safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
    • Properly uses and maintains tools and equipment including saws, digging equipment, drills, wrenches, compressors, presses, and crimpers
    • Properly uses and maintains electrical measuring and testing equipment including volt meters, amprobe meter, OHM meter
    • Operates vehicular equipment properly, including boom trucks, aerial lifts, tow motors, fork trucks, and scissor lift
    • Properly lays out projects, completes material take-off, and supports project from start to finish
    • Reads blueprints and schematics of systems and facility
    • Identify major standard electrical symbols and identify panel locations and circuits using airport blue prints
  • Abides by workplace health and safety rules, regulations, policies, and best practices in carrying out job duties
    • Provides job site protection for the general public
    • Performs hazard assessment and controls potential hazards to public
    • Controls environmental hazards
    • Participates in workplace safety activities
    • Utilizes personal protective devices and safety equipment properly
  • Installs, modifies, and repairs lighting systems in airport and airfield facilities
    • Rebuild and install a 1000 watt HPSV light fixture
    • Replace ballast in 277V & 120V fluorescent light
    • Controls environmental hazards
    • Replace lighting control contractor and identify components
    • Maintain runway, taxiway, beacons, weather monitoring systems, and other special airport lighting
    • Bend 1/2” E.M.T. conduit with box offset and back to back 90-degree bend
    • Bend 1/2" E.M.T. conduit 4-point saddle 12’ in span
  • Maintain and repair motors, relays, circuit breakers, and other electrical components of the lighting and mechanical systems
    • Reverse polarity on a 3-phase motor
    • Wire a 3-phase 480V motor for high and low voltage
    • Replace a motor control started coil and auxiliary contacts and identify components
    • Hook up a 3 phase 480V primary 208/120V secondary XFMR
    • Troubleshoot a control circuit and repair fault
    • Preventative maintenance of an access control system
    • Draw a simple motor control ladder diagram of any airport related system and describe process and function
  • Perform new installations of high and low electrical systems such as transformers, sub panels, and network racks
    • Install, repair, and maintain computer servers and racks for low voltage systems to include multiple camera systems
    • Use drawings, locate five different alarm initiation devices
