Level 1 Apprentice
Identifies and demonstrates use of machine safety, personal protective equipment, basic hand tools, and overall shop environment safety
Demonstrate the correct way to clean machines, floor area, and work cell.
Knowledge of filling out job completion documentation and record keeping (filling out setup sheets, process corrections, traveler corrections etc.)
Operates machine tools to perform routine operations (mill/lathe)
Demonstrate the ability to interpret basic part drawing specifications
Demonstrate inspection of parts using basic precision tools
Demonstrate how to cut and prepare stock material
Level 2 Apprentice
Demonstrate how to write a G code program in order to machine a basic mill and lathe part
Demonstrate ability to identify, inspect, and assemble appropriate machine tooling
Operates machine tools to perform routine operations (mill/lathe)
Sets up and performs squaring up the six surfaces of a block
Use basic hand tools to perform post machining operations like tapping and deburring
Keeps the duty station, tools, workbenches, and manual equipment clean and safe for work
Level 3 Apprentice
Demonstrate how to apply shop mathematics to troubleshoot or design geometric features
Design basic workholding for mill part
Design basic workholding for lathe part
Indicates location of part features and surfaces with accuracy
Sets up machine tools to perform routine operations
Inspects and assesses the condition of tooling
Level 4 Apprentice
Identify common types of metals and their impact on the machining processes (workholding and tool selection)
Prove program for simple mill part
Prove program for simple lathe part
Material traceability management
Inspects of parts using advanced precision tools
Demonstrate the tracing of defects to the originating section of their root cause. Non-confirming part management.
Level 5 Apprentice
Demonstrates compliance with lock-out / tag-out procedures and OSHA requirements and guidelines
Demonstrate the ability to perform daily, weekly and monthly Preventative Maintenance responsibilities.
Develops a process plan for a part requiring milling, drilling, turning, or grinding
Knowledge of ERP or other management system
Develops a program for the manufacture of a simple mill part
Develops a program for the manufacture of a simple lathe part
Level 6 Apprentice
Identify and apply standard GD&T dimensional tolerance
Sets up machine tools to perform unique operations
Develops an inspection plan and techniques while preparing reports on the compliance of the parts
Level 7 Apprentice
Prepare production documentation for other machine operators
Setup and prove program for advanced mill part
Setup and prove program for advanced lathe part
Level 8 Apprentice
